Objective
The annual global "Lights Out" event Earth Hour 2011 will take place on Saturday 26 March 2011 at 8:30pm. This year’s message calls on people to "Go Beyond the hour, consume wisely". According to WWF’s "Hong Kong Ecological Footprint Report 2010," Hong Kong people are living beyond the Earth’s limit. If everyone in the world lived a similar lifestyle to that of Hong Kong people, we would need resources equivalent to that of 2.2 Earths.

WWF believes Hong Kong companies can play a crucial role in building a sustainable future for the Earth, where humans live in harmony with nature. Earth Hour POOL Challenge is designed so that you can solicit ideas from your staff members, asking them to pool together and consume resources wisely. For example, you may set up a stationery desk or corner for sharing office supplies in your workplace. There is no need for staff members to have their own scissors, stapler, puncher, etc.

Benefits of Participation
Companies entering the Earth Hour POOL Challenge will:

  • Receive recognition and endorsement from WWF, the business community and the general public for your ideas pertaining to pooling together and consuming resources wisely;
  • Have a strengthened public image through association with WWF, as well as potential media coverage of your outstanding ideas in building and supporting a sustainable lifestyle;
  • Gain a valuable occasion for your staff members to reflect upon and generate ideas to help save the planet;
  • Boost staff morale through an outcome that involves collective contributions, which also helps motivate long-term positive behaviour changes.

Eligibility

  • Ideas that call on more than one person to work together in setting up and running the resources pool, and redefine the style of consumption;
  • Ideas can be presented with visuals such as videos, photos, illustrations, etc.;
  • Ideas should be actionable in Hong Kong workplaces;
  • Ideas must be submitted by a company that has pledged to participate in Earth Hour 2011.

  • Entrants must own the intellectual property right of the materials submitted for this Challenge;
  • Each entrant may submit more than one entry with proper work team identification;
